Frequently Asked Questions About the Mental Fitness Program

 

Is the Positive Intelligence/Mental Fitness program the right program for me?

It is if you are:

  • Committed to improving your performance and effectiveness dramatically while reducing stress
  • Looking for a science-based and trusted system to make it stick
  • Willing to put in the initial effort (though it requires less than 2% of your waking hours for the duration of the program) to rewire years of mental habits that don’t serve you

Aren’t negative emotions sometimes helpful?       

Some believe that negative emotions are helpful. They may feel stress gives them their performance edge or beating up themselves or others is helpful for continual improvement. Feeling pain for a split second when your hand touches a hot stove is, indeed, useful to deliver an important alert. Your Saboteurs, however, keep your hand on the “hot stove”. As a result, continuing to feel negative emotions can harm both performance and happiness.

In the Mental Fitness program, we learn to use negative emotions as a helpful alert, and then we quickly shift to our Sage brain, the region that has calm, clarity, objectivity, and creativity to handle a life challenge most effectively.

How much time and effort are required If I sign up for the program?

The program consists of watching a weekly hour-long video divided into smaller sections. It provides an experiential exploration of the focus of that week. Just minutes of daily bite-sized exercises in app-guided practice is important to building mental fitness, new neural pathways, and lasting new habits. You also are encouraged to read chapters 1-8 of Shirzad Chamine’s NY Times bestseller Positive Intelligence over the course of the program. The chapters are also available in the app along with access to a community of others participating in the program.

How is this different than reading the Positive Intelligence book?      

Well, would you learn to ride a bicycle by reading a book about it? Certainly, reading the book provides the research foundation and introduces the tools. The video sessions guide you through experiential exercises that help you personalize tools to your own personality and needs. Also, the app coaches you to practice one tool at a time in the context of your own daily work and life challenges. The PQ gym provides guided exercise to develop your self-command muscles to shift you to Sage.

What happens after the 7-week program is completed?

The program fee allows participants to have access to the app for one year. After the 7-week program concludes,  a variety of work and life applications to continue your growth are unlocked.
